Getting Started with Continuous Quality Improvement

To be eligible for an onsite rating, providers must complete a YoungStar-approved, program-wide, self-assessment and develop a quality improvement plan. Because these steps provide a foundation for coaching, providers who are not completing an onsite rating are encouraged to complete them as well.

A quality improvement plan (QIP) is created based on a completed self-assessment. The QIP:

Group Child Care

Choose from the following YoungStar-approved self-assessments:

For accredited group child care providers, or those in the process of accreditation, the self-study/self-assessment/self-observation tool for NAEYC, NAC, AMS, City of Madison, COA, NECPA, or Cognia – NCA/SACS/NWAC (formerly AdvancEd) may be used.

Family Child Care

Choose from the following YoungStar-approved self-assessments:

For accredited family child care providers, or those in the process of accreditation, the self-study/self-assessment/self-observation tool for NAFCC or Satellite Family Child Care Accreditation may be used.

School-Age Care

Choose from the following YoungStar-approved self-assessments:

For accredited out of school time care providers, or those in the process of accreditation, the self-study/self-assessment/self-observation tool for AMS, City of Madison, COA, NECPA, or Cognia – NCA/SACS/NWAC (formerly AdvancEd) may be used.

Day Camp

Choose from the following YoungStar-approved self-assessments:

For accredited day camp providers, or those in the process of accreditation, the self-study/self-assessment/self-observation tool for ACA, City of Madison, or COA may be used.
